FARMINGTON – On the eve of a new double-album release, award-winning, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter J.P. Cormier will appear at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Renowned as a prodigious musical talent since the age of 5, Cormier has developed into an established songwriter and master string instrumentalist. With eight independent recordings to his credit, including the 2005 album, “The Long River: A Personal Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot,” Cormier is preparing to release a two-volume set spanning his last 10 years as a recording artist. The newest release, “Looking Back – Volume 1, The Instrumentals, and Volume 2, The Songs,” will include previously unreleased material as well as reworked versions of previously released songs.
Born in London, Ontario, to Cape Breton parents, Cormier recorded his first album, a collection of bluegrass instrumentals, at age 16. With the project in hand, he worked his way across the U.S. festival circuit. These appearances led to a move to the United States and 10 years of session work and live appearances with such notable artists as Waylon Jennings, Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs, Carl Perkins, Bill Monroe, Charlie Louvin and Vince Gill.
Since his return to Canada, Cormier’s impressive body of work has earned him a loyal fan base and multiple award nominations and wins.
Advance tickets for the concert are available for $8 at Mickey’s Hallmark on Main Street or at The Chocolate Shop on Route 2. Tickets at the door: $10. Family tickets: $25. For reservations, call 562-4445.
