1931 – 2015

AUGUSTA — Robert Austin Bean, “Bob,” 84, formerly of Vienna, passed peacefully with his son at his side in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided since May 6, 2011.

He was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Farmington, a son of Arthur J. and Ethelyn (Tucker) Bean. He received his education in local schools and was a 1949 graduate of Farmington High School. On Dec. 15, 1950, he married Leona M. Redlevske in Farmington.

He was a Korean War veteran, having proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He retired as a rural route mail carrier after 32 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge, the Farmington American Legion Post No. 28 and the Korean War Veterans Association.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Leona, of Pinewood Terrace, Farmington; their son, Robert A. Bean Jr. of Augusta; two grandsons, Ryan M. Bean of Rochester, N.Y. and Cory R. Bean and his wife, Danielle, of Boston; a sister, Ruth Targett of The Pierce House, Farmington; and one nephew, Timothy Targett.
