FRYEBURG — The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Met Opera Live in HD series returns to the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center for the second half of the 2015-16 season on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 18 Bradley St.
Located in Fryeburg Academy’s state-of-the-art theater, the live simulcast’s high-definition picture and surround-sound audio makes it seem as if the viewer is actually watching the performance inside New York City’s famed opera house.
Bizet’s “Les Pecheurs de Perles” starts off the second half of the season at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16. Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leila, the beautiful Hindu priestess pursued by rival pearl divers competing for her hand. Director Penny Woolcock explores the timeless themes of pure love, betrayal and vengeance in a production that vividly creates an undersea world on the stage of the Met. Conductor Gianandrea Noseda brings his romantic flair to the lush score from the composer of “Carmen.”
The 2015-16 Live in HD season also features “Turandot” on Jan. 30, “Manon Lescaut” on March 3, “Madama Butterfly” on April 2, “Roberto Devereux” on April 16, and “Elektra” on April 30.
