BRUNSWICK – Local jazz guitarist Neil Lamb, who plays a seven-string guitar with an extra low A string that allows him extended range in the lower register, will perform Saturday, May 21, at the Unitarian Universalist Church.
The program offers a mix of unique solo-arrangements of jazz standards and Lamb’s original works.
Lamb’s musical journey started at age 10, when he began playing piano before switching to guitar after seeing the Beatles on the “Ed Sullivan Show.”
In the 1970s, he studied modern composition with Bernard Rands and Wilfrid Mellers at the University of York, Heslington, England. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in music in 1973.
When he returned to the United States, he began studying the masters at the root of jazz. He has combined his varied musical experiences, which include modern contemporary compositional techniques, free-form improvisation, Americana, and traditional jazz with a dash of rock ‘n’ roll and a pinch of country.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 15 Pleasant St. Admission is $10.
