RANGELEY — The Rangeley World Record Snowmobile Ride for Cystic Fibrosis will kick off its fundraising weekend with a charity auction Friday, Feb. 12, at the Gingerbread House in Oquossoc.
The auction will start at 6 p.m. and will include items from local artists, executive chefs, guides and sportsmen, ski areas and boat rental businesses, vacation stays, gift certificates and products from all over New England.
On Saturday, Feb. 13, festivities will start at 11 a.m. at Bald Mountain Camps in Oquossoc. There will be music, a barbecue and a bonfire on the ice. A renowned cystic fibrosis doctor will speak about new research developments.
The ride will start in Oquossoc and travel to Rangeley, down Main Street and back to Bald Mountain Camps. Ride entry is a $10 decal donation.
Events all day and a huge fireworks show after dark are free to the public.
In 2015, there were over 400 sleds and $32,000 raised.
The Guinness World Record for the Largest Parade of Snowmobiles was awarded to the Science Hill Drifters snowmobile club from St. Marys, Ontario, in 2015, according to American Snowmobiler magazine. The club’s Feb. 8, 2015, ride featured 847 snowmobiles covering a 10-kilometer route. The previous record was an 821-sled parade by a group from Minnesota, according to the magazine.
