AUGUSTA (AP) — Roller derby skaters are heading to the Maine State House in Augusta to testify in favor of a bill that legalizes the bumps and hits that accompany the sport.
Roller derby advocates say the old statute prohibits skaters from hitting each other, so skaters have been forced to break the law for the last 10 years in Portland.
Maine Roller Derby lobbied to have the proposal put before lawmakers this session.
The Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development planned to hear testimony on the proposal Tuesday afternoon.
