NEWRY – Sunday River’s Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series will present illusionist Jason Bishop Saturday, March 12. The McDades will bring their Celtic-rooted music to the stage Tuesday, March 15.
Bishop’s signature piece turns fire and candles into live birds, and those birds split into even more birds. A girl is seemingly cut in half with a samurai sword as colorful lights chase across the stage, and drawings from a sketchpad come to life as fire and roses jump off the pages.
The McDades, a family trio, features fiddler/singer Shannon Johnson, multi-instrumentalist and singer Jeremiah McDade and bassist Solon McDade. The Edmonton, Alberta, band also includes an upright jazz bass player, a master violinist and a guitarist whose style has developed somewhere between modern Celtic, traditional French Canadian and jazz.
The shows are at 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Summit Resort Hotel at Sunday River. Tickets: $4 for children (12 and under) and $6 for adults in advance; $6 and $8 at the door. Children under 5 admitted free. Tickets may be purchased on the mountain or at Books-N-Things in Bethel. FMI: call (207) 824-3575.
