1945 – 2016

FARR WEST, Utah — William “Bill” Rodney Stimson, retired U.S. Army sergeant major, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, Feb. 15, after a long, courageous battle of 15 years with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 15, 1945, the youngest son of Walter Winfield Stimson and Ruth Nason. He grew up in the beautiful small town of Mechanic Falls, where he met the love of his life and soul mate, Sheila. They were married Aug. 8, 1970, in New Auburn.

Together they raised six amazing children, Richard William (Nancy), Nancy Ruth (Julie), Ronald Allan, Stephen Warren, Billie Jo Madsen and Pamela Ellen Briggs. Bill and Sheila were blessed with 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with one more on the way and who all loved and admired him.

Throughout his 22 years of exemplary career in the military, he served numerous tours to Korea, Germany, Fort Riley, Kan., West Point, N.Y. and Defense Depot, Ogden, Utah, and served 13 months in the Vietnam War.

He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, camping and gardening. He was a selfless individual who gave to others always and was always there to help at any time even when not feeling 100 percent himself.
