1925 – 2016
AUBURN — Alphonse H. “Al” Auger, 90, formerly of Main Street, Auburn, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at The Odd Fellows’ and Rebekahs’ Home of Maine in Auburn, where he resided.
He was born on May 8, 1925, in Auburn, one of nine children born to Arthur and Amanda (St. Pierre) Auger.
Al was educated in Auburn schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. He was a military veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, assigned as a member of the military police, until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Al worked as a carpenter all of his life in the building construction industry and more specifically, was an expert drywall contractor. He also had a mastery of stone masonry. Having first worked for a couple of local contractors, he later spent over 20 years working for Edward Hebert and Sons Construction until his retirement. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Louis Church, and a member of American Legion Post 22.
Al was an incredibly avid fisherman. He greatly enjoyed the sport, and experienced it in Canada, on Lake Ontario, as well as right here in Maine on Sebago Lake and in his own backyard at the family camp on Lake Auburn. He also enjoyed photography, bird hunting, and listening to music. In his later years, once retired, he began painting and became quite an accomplished artist.
Having never married, Al’s close family were his sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, and he always liked those fun family times filled with plenty of love and laughter. He was a loving and hardworking brother and uncle who will be greatly missed.
Al leaves behind one brother, Andre Auger of Auburn; two sisters, Anna Siteman, of South Walpole, Mass., and Alice Jacques of Litchfield; and many, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Arthur Auger; and four sisters, Alma Boisvert, Aline Comeau, Antonia Nadeau and Alexina Theberge.
