FALMOUTH — UMaine Extension Cumberland County will conclude its Saturday morning workshop series that explores using local foods in the Maine home kitchen. The course on Saturday, March 19, will feature ways to use Maine craft beer in recipes.
Kathy Savoie, UMaine Extension educator, and Kate McCarty, food preservation community education assistant, will lead the last workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the UMaine Extension Cumberland County office, 75 Clearwater Drive.
The course will describe the history of Maine’s relationship with alcohol from New England rum to the temperance movement and finally present-day local distillers as Kate McCarty features in her book, “Distilled in Maine.”
Participants will learn to create salad dressings, marinades, baking quick breads, and desserts using Maine craft beers. Participants will take home a local protein (beef, pork or tempeh) with a beer marinade. They will need to bring a cooler to class.
The cost is $40 a class. Registration is required.
