PARIS — The 2016 McLaughlin Garden lecture series will continue Wednesday, March 9, when Donna Anderson, executive director of the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead, presents “The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: Preserving One Woman’s Artistic and Horticultural Legacy with Respect and Innovation.
Anderson came to McLaughlin over a year ago from Yager Museum of Art and Culture at Hartwick College. She has a degree in museum studies and an interest in art and gardens. Isabella Stewart Gardner was an art collector but also had an interest in horticulture. The courtyard at the museum has a floral display.
Anderson’s talk will address Isabella Stewart Gardner’s love of art and horticulture and consider her legacy and the creative ways in which the museum has created spaces for exploration of new ideas and perspectives.
The lecture is a preview for the bus trip that the McLaughlin Garden is hosting to the Gardner Museum in Boston on Monday, April 11. Volunteers at the garden invite members of the public to join them for the all-day trip that will include a lecture in Boston by the horticultural director of the Gardner Museum and time to view the works of art in the museum.
Details are available by calling 207-743-8820 or by signing up in the garden gift shop, which will be open during the lecture series.
The illustrated lecture will begin at 4 p.m. upstairs in the historic Tribou home at 97 Main St., where Bernard McLaughlin lived with his wife. Tea will be served at 3:30. The lecture is free and open to the public.
This is the second of six lectures held weekly. Donations will be accepted for the preservation of the buildings and garden.
