1921 – 2016

BRUNSWICK — Alena Hutchins Fraser, 94, of Brunswick went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 1.

She was born on May 7, 1921, in New Portland Hill, the second child of seven, to Thurston and Anna Hutchins. She graduated from Brunswick High School as salutatorian of her Class in 1939. In 1943, she received her teaching certificate from Farmington Normal School. She taught in Auburn, Bath and Durham schools.

She married Howard H. Fraser on June 23, 1946.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Howard H. Fraser; two brothers, Erwin Hutchins of Waldoboro and William Hutchins of Corning, N.Y.; a sister, Clara Hutchins of Brunswick; four children, Shirley and her husband, Paul Mathews, of Wheaton, Ill., Brenda and her husband, Bill Castonguay, of Raleigh, N.C., Howard Jr. and his wife, Sharon Fraser, of New Woodstock, N.Y., Katherine and her husband, Gary deBock, of Big Rapids, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Brunswick for over 70 years and most recently was a member of Riverside Drive Baptist Church in Auburn. Alena was a godly woman who loved and served her family and the Lord Jesus well.
