1941 – 2016

AUBURN — Jane Johnson, 74, of New Gloucester died Thursday, March 3, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn.

Born in Carthage, Mo., on Dec. 15, 1941, she was the daughter of James and Opal Watts Palmer. Her family moved to California when she was young, and she was a graduate of Manuel Dominguez High School in Compton, Class of ’59. On June 26, 1964, she married Clifford F. Johnson in Compton, Calif.

She was a stay-at-home mom up until her son and daughter were in high school and junior high school, and was always there for them when they got home from school, often with freshly baked cookies.

Always a hard worker, she was employed for several years in the offices of Riverside City Utilities in California, and after moving to Maine in 1978, worked for Falcon Rule and the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

While in California, she was very active in the Glen Avon Women’s Club.

Survivors include her loving husband, Cliff, of New Gloucester; a son, Steven Johnson and wife, Betsy, of New Gloucester; a daughter, Stacey Johnson of Pearl River, N.Y.; and a brother, Louis “Bud” Palmer and wife, Ida, of Riverside, Calif.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Wanda Moore and Shirley Carter.
