1923 – 2016

NORWAY — Robert Lloyd Thompson, 92, died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 6, with his loving wife, daughter and brother by his side.

He was born in Bethel to Beatrice (Morton) and Lloyd Thompson. He was the oldest of five children.

He grew up in Bethel and later, he moved to Norway and worked at Snowcraft, which made snowshoes for the government during World War II. There, he met the love of his life, Stella Buck. They were married in 1943 and have since lived most of their lives in the area where they built their first house in 1946.

They built several homes through the years, as well as restoring their cottage at Papoose Pond. There, they entertained their friends for card games and cookouts. He loved building things in his workshop and working in his vegetable and flower gardens.

He drove tractor-trailer interstate until ill health forced him to retire. He was a hard worker and always saw the sunny side of things.

Survivors include his wife, Stella; two daughters, Bonnie Hall and Barbara Mader; two grandchildren, Lisa Martin and Tim Davis; two great-grandsons; and his brother, Earle Thompson.

He was predeceased by his three sisters; and a grandson, Steven Hall.

Thanks to Dr. Medd and the Androscoggin Hospice who gave him such loving care.

His well-lived life is a legacy for his family. Robert met the last days of his life as he lived them — straight on, not taking things too seriously, ready for whatever was to be.
