The win keeps Bates (5-0) unblemished on the season. The loss is Amherst’s first in two games.

Bates got off to a quick start in the first half. Kaileigh Maguire put the Bobcats ahead 1-0 at the 28:37 mark. Maguire then assisted a scoring strike by Emma Brinkman two minutes later to give Bates a 2-0 lead.

At the 25:20 mark, Maguire found the back of the net for the second time, before Brinkman added her second tally of the contest at the 16:16 mark to make it 4-0.

Amherst rallied to score three of the next four goals. Claire Cagnassola, Rachel Passarelli and Kate Wyeth each found the net to set the score at 5-3 in favor of Bates with 3:09 to play in the first half. Passarelli provided the helper on Cagnassola’s score, and Cagnassola aided Wyeth’s marker.

Camille Belletete added a score for the Bobcats at the 12:05 mark to round out the scoring for the first half.

Brinkman collected her third goal of the game 3:55 into the second stanza, before Cagnassola and Wyeth answered with goals for Amherst to bring the score to 6-5 in favor of the Bobcats. Mia Haughton provided the assists on both goals, including Wyeth’s marker at the 19:23 mark, which was on the advantage.

Alex Briody scored at the 18:51 mark, and Wyeth returned the favor with her third goal of the contest following a nice feed from Passarelli to make it 7-6 with 17:17 remaining.

Brinkman added another tally to give Bates an 8-6 edge at the 13:36 mark, before Christy Forrest distributed a pass to Mary Grace Cronin, who found the nylon to pull Amherst within one (8-7) just 26 seconds later.

Despite another shot on frame from Cagnassola, and two more by Passarelli, including one with 32 seconds remaining, Bobcats’ goalie Hannah Jeffrey made three critical stops to preserve the win.
