JAY – The Maine Country Music Association will present a country Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Jay Community Center.
This show will feature young performers from various parts of Maine. Fourteen-year-old singer Shawna Edwards of Auburn received the Most Promising Junior Newcomer and Junior Entertainer awards at the association’s award show on Oct. 17. She also received several awards through the Down East Country Music Association and is scheduled to compete in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., in the spring.
The Smith Brothers, Jay, a 15-year-old fiddle player, and Sane, a 13-year-old guitar player from Industry, fronted for Ricky Skaggs at the Lobster Festival in Rockland in August.
Sixteen-year-old singer Megan Burnell of Standish has won many awards from several Country Music Associations as well as performing at the Louise Mandrel Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Sixteen-year-old singer and guitar player Patrick Libby of Livermore Falls received Traditional Country Male Vocalist for ages 13 to 16 and Traditional Country Male Entertainer ages 13 to 16 through Down East music group and also is eligible to compete in Pigeon Forge in the spring.
Fifteen-year-old singer, and guitar and mandolin player Cliff Randall and 10-year-old singer Mandy Garnett, the Gelina Children of Gardiner received Junior Entertainer of the Year and, along with their parents, won the Bluegrass Award at the Oct. 17 award show Oct. 17. Cliff and Mandy have won several awards through the Down East group and are planning to go to Pigeon Forge to represent Maine in the national finals.
Also appearing will be “old-timers” Barry Wood, Jim Roy, Ronnie Roy, Bing and Nancy Crosby, and Sandy Waite-Haskell.
