1920 – 2016

SKOWHEGAN — Aurelie H. Bourassa, 95, of Waterville died on Sunday, March 20, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Center in Skowhegan.

She was born on May 8, 1920, in Winslow, the youngest child of Bertha (Lemieux) and Odilon Bourassa. Her most recent residence had been at Cedar Ridge Nursing Center in Skowhegan. Aurelie graduated from Winslow High School in 1938. After high school, she worked in the community while her sister completed her studies in nursing school. She then also pursued a nursing career, enrolling in the Sister’s Hospital of Nursing in Waterville. After her graduation in 1942, she worked in Jersey City, N.J., and at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md. From 1951 to 1960, she worked at the Veterans’ Hospital in Togus and then returned to Waterville to care for her elderly parents. Until declining health brought on retirement in 1983, Aurelie worked in Waterville at the Sister’s Hospital and then Mid-Maine Medical Center’s CCU.

Aurelie was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow. She was a member of several organizations, including the Secular Franciscan Order beginning in 1978, the Volunteers of God, The Ladies of St. Anne, the Daughters of Isabella Circle No. 447 and R.S.V.P.

She is survived by two nieces, Jean Sleeper of Cherry Valley, Calif., and Carole Clark of Plano, Texas; and a nephew, John Bourassa of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her siblings, Francois, Mary Blanche and Lucien.
