“The Nanny Diaries,” already in development as a feature film, could be headed to the small screen as well.

Miramax TV has signed writer-producer Dana Klein (“Friends”) to develop a sitcom loosely based on the best-selling novel by Nicola Kraus and Emma McLaughlin. The studio says it’s continuing work on developing a feature-film adaptation of the book, with producer Richard Gladstein (“The Cider House Rules”) at the helm.

“‘The Nanny Diaries’ has great potential for both film and television,” Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein says in a statement. “… “Friends’ was always one of my personal favorite shows, which makes it especially exciting to be working with Dana on this project.”

The novel follows the life of a college student who takes a job as a nanny to a wealthy Manhattan family, who turn out to be nightmarish employers. While doing her best to work around the parents’ crumbling marriage, the nanny also has to deal with classes, a budding romance and caring for her young charge.

In addition to “Friends,” Klein has also worked on “Becker” and “Jesse.”
