Katherine E. Dunn
1925 – 2009

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Katherine E. Dunn, 83, previously of Lincoln Street, Lewiston, passed away Sunday, April 26, in Phoenix, Ariz., after her courageous battle with various illnesses.
She was born in Amesbury, Mass., Oct. 13, 1925, the daughter of Hazel G. and Fred O. Foote. She attended schools in Lisbon Falls, and graduated from the former Lisbon Falls High School. She was married to Malcolm A. Dunn, who died Aug. 2, 1967, and she remained a grieving widow from that time. She worked in many industries during her lifetime, from the woolen and paper mills in and around Lisbon, to helping other at the Pineland Training Center in Pownal.

She retired from the former Pineland Training Center after many years of devoted service to the mental handicapped and to the state of Maine. In 1994, she moved to Arizona for health reasons and to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter who had previously moved there.
She was known for her no-nonsense Maine common sense and her down-to-earth sensibility. She was well loved by all who knew her, and she was a person who appreciated the simple things in life. She was an avid knitter and outstanding cook who enjoyed doing arts and crafts; she inspired all with her abilities and talents. She was a loving mother, sister, and daughter who will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her three children, Lois G. (Dunn) Blaksley and her husband, Robert, of Maricopa, Ariz., David M. Dunn and his wife, Jeanne, of Lewiston and Tannis (Farrington) Bowie and her husband, Roger, of Durham; two brothers, Gardner S. Foote and his wife, Jeanne, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., and W. James Foote and his wife, Edna, of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Amanda S. Pepin of Phoenix, Ariz. , Lance D. Pepin and his wife, Kelly, of Standish, Laura J. Desrosiers of Wales, Stephen S. Desrosiers and his wife, Wendy, of Lewiston, Daniel R. Desrosiers of Poland and Rene M. (Bowie) Peterson and her husband, Brian, of Durham; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred O. and Hazel G. Foote; her husband, Malcolm A. Dunn; her sister, Lois G. Foote; and many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
