LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women has announced its May programming. Programs are from 10 to 11:30 a.m. unless noted.

Jewelry Repair: Tuesday, May 3. Participants may bring broken pieces of jewelry and learn how to repair them.

Music with Rebecca: Wednesday, May 4. The center will provide an opportunity to sing as a group and exercise vocal chords.

New Books, New Readers: 5 p.m. Wednesdays. As a Bonner Fellow, Jaqueline Forney facilitates this book group for lower literacy readers, sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council.

Peasant Pantry Café: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5. The Peasant Pantry Café features one-pot sustainable meals from different countries. This month, the dish will be Flauta, or rolled taco, a Mexican food dish consisting of a small rolled-up tortilla and some type of filling, including beef, cheese or chicken, topped with sour cream and guacamole. The meal is open to the public at no charge, and donations are welcome.

Gardening Starts: Thursday, May 5. The center will turn in compost and prep the gardens.

Mother’s Day Ritual: Friday, May 6. This is a day to honor the important women in life. This can be a difficult time for some. Participants will bond and honor important women.

StandingWomen.net: 1 p.m. Sunday, May 8. Stand with women and men wherever one is in five minutes of silence, to anchor the vision.

Book Making: Tuesday, May 10. Sarah Shepley will facilitate book making with creative and artful handmade paper.

Positive Image Collages: All day Thursday, May 12. The center will provide material to make collages with positive and affirming pictures and drawings.

What’s Cooking with Anita: Tuesday, May 17. The center and participants will participate in soup making and/or something as delicious.

Finding & Keeping Your Power, Part Two: Thursday, May 19. This wellness class will discuss the importance of self-care when interacting with others.

Adult Coloring: Tuesday, May 24. The center will provide many different pages to choose and color.

Art Van: Wednesday, May 25.

May Birthday Celebration: Noon on Wednesday, May 25. May birthdays will be celebrated.

Clothing giveaway: Thursday, May 26. The center will hold a clothing giveaway during a daylong event.

Women’s Night Out: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26. Led by Margo Goodman, DO, the center will explore healing with sound – Tibetan chimes and singing bowls, drums, wind chimes, waterfalls and bells. There is no cost, but donations welcome. Light refreshments.

Bingo: Tuesday, May 31.

Reiki: 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31. Participants may sign up for a free 15-minute Reiki session.

The center’s hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. All women are welcome, programs are free and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily, and the center has a shower.

The center is also seeking volunteer applicants for companions. The companion role requires women to have a professional background in social work, teaching, nursing, chaplaincy or other related fields, and companions work with local women. The commitment is a half-day weekly. Those interested should contact Executive Director Klara Tammany at 207-513-3922.
