Historical Society organizing archives

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will begin digging into boxes of archival material at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the Historical Society building at 64 Elm St.

Those interested in assisting the society in recording the town’s historical past may attend, view and participate in the undertaking.

Secretary James Craig has created an outline of subject titles, which members will follow as each box is opened and the material is unearthed. The outline will incorporate major titles such as people, businesses, government, education, churches, community and fraternal organizations. These will be followed by subheads such as publications, families, events, wars and veterans, obituaries, maps, photographs, tools, furniture, crafts, housewares, clothing, toys, music and transportation.

The society hopes to hold several of these archival meetings throughout the year.
