NORWAY – On Friday, Jan. 23, a conversation with photographer Alan Day will take place at the Fare Share Commons, 447 Main St., beginning at 7 p.m.
Day will speak about “Transparency, Vulnerability and Truth: Art as Intimacy” as it relates to the exhibit on display at the Commons: “50/50 – Threshold: Expo? … Sure!” The show is a retrospective of Day’s work, using images and artifacts from his childhood through to his photographic art.
While the topic of conversation on Friday evening can range to many subjects, the focus is proposed to be an investigation of the artist as storyteller/autobiographer.
As Day reviewed work to include in the show, he began to consider the questions of “how much to reveal” in the details of the life story he tells in the exhibit.
The result is a blend of specifics, symbols, allegory, clues, evidence and mystery, allowing viewers to make his/her own connections to the individual images from their own life experiences.
Also, Day is interested in questions such as: “What is personal?”, “What is ‘out of bounds’ for a public exhibit of life artifacts?” and “How much allusion is appropriate when an exhibit is expressly autobiographical?”
