Colonial Daughters Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to area teens to recognize excellence.

Sylvia Adams, treasurer of the Colonial Daughters Chapter, presented the high school seniors with a good citizen pin and a certificate authorized and signed by National Society President General Lynn Forney Young and Maine State Society Regent Sandra Swallow.

The Colonial Daughters Chapter sponsors six area schools to recognize excellence in high school seniors. Each school’s faculty nominates several candidates each year. The student chosen to receive the honor must have demonstrated each of the qualities as defined by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution to an outstanding degree. These qualities are dependability (truthfulness, loyalty and punctuality), service (cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others), leadership (personality, self-control and ability to assume responsibility) and patriotism (unselfish interest in family, school community and union).

The recipients are:

Bailey DeBiase, daughter of John and Andrea DeBiase of Carrabassett Valley. During her years at Mt. Abram High School in Salem, DeBiase has been a member of the student council, serving as secretary her senior year. She is an active member of the Girls Book Club and the National Honor Society. As a junior, she attended Dirigo Girls State at Husson University. Her artistic talents led her to be selected to attend Haystack Mountain School of Crafts: Student Weekend 2015. She has been active in soccer, softball and the ski teams. DeBiase’s true passion is art, and she hopes to continue her education in art therapy and perhaps someday become a registered art therapist.

Eryn Doiron, the daughter of Michael and Bryn Doiron of Wilton. During her four years at Mt. Blue High School, Doiron has managed to achieve high grades in her classes and success on the athletic fields. She has served as vice president of her class several times, was selected as a KVAC soccer player in 2015, Maine State All-Maine soccer team in 2014 and Mt. Blue girls soccer Offensive Player of the Year 2013-14. She also played girls’ varsity basketball for three years, two of them as captain, and played girls’ varsity tennis four years, two as captain. She is also a member of the Mt. Blue Band, YETI Outdoor Club and the Math Team, as well as second place finisher in the RUBEL competition in 2015. After completing her studies at Mt. Blue, Doiron hopes to attend Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.
