LEWISTON – Just Joan’s Café on Lisbon Street will feature two local singer-songwriters Saturday, Jan. 24.

Lynn Deeves, from Richmond, has played throughout the state, including Bates College, many locations in Portland and Slate’s Monday Night Concert Series in Hallowell. In 2001, Deeves and her fellow Maine songwriters Anni Clark and Dan Merrill released a CD called “under the song tree Live.”

Deeves also has several CDs to her credit. Her rich, soulful vocals combine with a sharp wit and dynamic stage presence. The UU Coffeehouse in Waterville calls Deeves “one of the most requested singers we’ve ever booked.”

Opening for Deeves will be a Just Joan’s favorite, Sara Cox, who was featured on the last four volumes of WCLZ’s “Greetings from Area Code 207.” She also has released a CD, “Arrive,” which the Boston Herald said is “studded with pop hooks and well-turned lyrics.”

This is the first event of 2004 at Just Joan’s Café. Also performing will be Eric Schwartz of Boston March 6 and Steff Mahan of Nashville May 15.

The Deeves/Cox concert starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. to allow patrons time for dinner and Joan’s baked goods. Tickets: $8 in advance ($10 at the door) at Just Joan’s Café (33 Lisbon St., 782-9635) and at Mr. Paperback in Lewiston.
