PORTLAND – The Affiliate Artists of Portland Stage Company and Longfellow Books are presenting a holiday offering of actors reading from JRR Tolkien’s “Letters from Father Christmas,” a Hanukkah story and solstice goodies at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Portland Stage Company, 25A Forest Ave.

Tolkien’s humanity shines through these charming adventure-filled letters, which he wrote to his children each Christmas, according to a spokesman for the company.

Elves, polar bears, gnomes and Santa are a few of the characters in these letters that illuminate the power of love and the horrors of war.

Tickets will be available at the door. This is considered a “pay what you can” event.
