SABATTUS — Selectmen, on the recommendation of Town Manager Tony Ward, decided Tuesday to create a policy to permanently restrict heavy vehicles from certain town roads.

Two that were discussed were Jordan Bridge and Ball Park roads.

Road Foreman Gary Labonte said he is concerned that recent repairs of these roads won’t stand up to heavy equipment, especially tri-axle vehicles. He said posting a 30,000-pound limit will preserve them.

Selectmen Michelle Ames said she didn’t think it was fair to restrict local  businesses from using the roadways because they pay taxes.

The board decided to write a policy and have the Ordinance Committee review it. It will be on the board’s upcoming agenda, and residents are invited to attend and comment on it before a decision is made.

Construction on Pleasant Hill Road is on schedule, Labonte said. The section being worked on will be closed until June 18.

The fiscal year 2015 town audit draft was tabled to the next meeting so selectmen can review it.

Selectman Mark Duquette requested to have the auditors explain the details to the board.

The board approved an article for the June 14 warrant to have lights installed at the Oak Hill High School football field for no more than $200,000.

The board met in executive session to discuss the bargaining agreement for the Public Works contract. It will make a decision on the matter at a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Town Hall.

The annual town meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Town Hall.

The Memorial Day Parade will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, starting at American Legion Post 135 on Island Road and ending at the veterans’ monument for a ceremony.

Board of Selectmen Chairman Mark Duquette and Selectmen Michelle Ames and Guy Desjardins and Andre Marquis attended the meeting.

J.P. Curran was absent.
