A correction should be made in the report that the disturbance on Main St., Lewiston, Saturday night started as the result of a Polish wedding. To begin with the hall where the drunken brawl started is not the Polish Hall, and is not used by them but is the headquarters of the Lithuanian Club which is in no way connected with the Polander’s Club. The Polish people desire it stated that they were in no way responsible for the affair as had been reported.
50 Years Ago, 1954
Much of the heavy work in renovating an Auburn city building basement section, which formerly housed the coal bin, for a new guardroom for the Auburn police has been completed by city crews, according to Roscoe L. Clifford, city engineer. New basement windows, a new floor and ceiling have been installed. Some work remains on the walls and the plumbing. When this is completed the room will be painted. The furnace at Auburn city building was changed from coal to oil two years ago and the bin area became available for other use.

One of Lewiston’s most popular after-hour nightspots for the young, disco-dancing crowd will close its Park Street doors on Aug. 26. Michael Bolduc, owner of The Park, announced Friday his bottle club’s last night of operation will be next Saturday. Bolduc will open a new nightclub in Lisbon called “The New Heathwood.” “The New Heathwood” will feature strictly live rock ‘n roll bands.
