1942 – 2016
LEWISTON — Fred Bruce Crystal, 74, of Stage Road (Pikes Hill), Norway, passed away Wednesday, May 25, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with his wife Carol by his side.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1942, in Newark, N.J., son of Harold Crystal and Edna Marjorie Gietter.
Fred graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1960. Afterwards, he served in the U.S. Navy as a frogman until 1967. Upon completion of his service in the military, Fred became a lineman and pole climber for the telephone company here in Maine. He was an avid skier and was on the National Ski Patrol for many years at Mt. Abrams, where him and his son skied every chance they could.
He was also a devote member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and asides from hunting, other hobbies include: fishing, gardening and playing cribbage. Freddie had a green thumb. His favorite pastime of all was riding his Harley with the boys. He was one of the original members of the Frost Hill Rider and then later member of the Saracens Motorcycle Club (SMC), Harley Owners Group (HOG) and the United Bikers of Maine (UBM).
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Crystal; and three children, Danielle Robin Crystal, Scott Matthew Crystal and Kevin Brown; his sister, Rene Crystal; and five grandchildren, Dejah Crystal, Felicia Rogers, Caleb Brown, Brianna Brown and Clara Crystal.
As a husband, father, grandfather, and friend – all will remember him for is compassion, sense of humor and love of life.
