ORONO — Authorities searching for a 37-year-old kayaker who capsized have recovered a body from the Stillwater River in Orono.
The Portland Press Herald reports dive crews were in Orono on Wednesday morning to search the river for Mohammad Jamal of Massachusetts. His 7-year-old daughter was rescued earlier.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near the Steam Plant parking lot on the University of Maine campus.
Maine Warden Service Sgt. Alan Gillis says the girl was wearing a life jacket and was able to get near the shore. A firefighter assisted her the rest of the way.
Gillis said earlier on Wednesday that Jamal wasn’t wearing a life jacket and was last seen going under the water.
