POLAND — The McConaghy-Walker house may not be demolished after all, Selectwoman Janice Kimball announced at Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting.

Kimball wanted to dispel impressions that the board wasn’t following through on the April town meeting vote that approved $30,000 to demolish the building.

She said someone has come forward with a proposal to move the building to another lot. The name of the person and the details cannot be released at this time, she said.

The McConaghy-Walker house is a large red building on Maine Street/Route 26 between the Ricker Memorial Library and the old Town Hall. The town acquired the property three years ago as part of a master plan for a unified municipal complex.

The intent was to move the McConaghy-Walker house but, when no one came forward after nearly three years, selectmen asked residents whether they wanted to spend more than $100,000 to restore the building or $30,000 to demolish it.

In other business, selectmen:

* Approved issuing a request for proposals for Fire Department turnout gear, coats and pants. Fire Chief Mark Bosse said they were looking to replace 25 sets of turnout gear with money approved at town meeting. Requests for proposals are due July 7;

* Tabled Bosse’s proposal for a new reserve pumper to replace the department’s Engine 2, a 2003 Pierce International, until the full board is present;

* Accepted the bid for painting centerlines on town roads to Poirier Guidelines of Athol, Mass., for $8,374.88, the lowest of three;

* Reviewed revised bylaws for the Community and Economic Development Committee, made several amendments and sent them to the committee for review;

* Approved amendments to the town’s parking and traffic control ordinance, updating the list of roads to be posted to heavy vehicles during the spring;

* Was told by librarian Joanne Messer that Ricker Library will be closed June 16 and 17 to switch to a new computer system;

* Was told by Administrative Assistant Nikki Pratt that the town’s Employee Appreciation Dinner will be held of Oct. 16; and

* Was told that Alex Sirois, administrative assistant for the town Planning and Community Development Office, resigned last week and is Casco’s code enforcement officer. The town is advertising for a replacement.
