AUBURN – Favorite childhood fairy tales will come to life in L/A Arts Summer Theatre production of “Into the Woods,” a Broadway junior musical.
The book by James Lapine and music of Steven Sondheim is brought to life by area young people in this entertaining encounter between some of the Grimm Brothers’ most infamous characters at 6 p.m. Friday, July 23.
The performance of about an hour will take place in the Great Falls Performing Arts Center, at Academy and High streets.
“Into the Woods,” Broadway junior, animates a pair of bakers, Cinderella, Jack (and his beanstalk, of course), a witch, Rapunzel, princes, Red Riding Hood and other enchanted folk who are trying to break magical spells and have their wishes granted before midnight.
Dreams, beans, milk white cows and golden hairs change hands through in a series of mishaps, love stories and adventures in the woods.
This year’s group is especially talented, which is evident when one sees the ease in which these kids maneuver this complicated play, according to L/A Arts. Odelle Bowman, director of L/A Arts Summer Theatre Program, along with Sean Demers, the production’s director, said they’re both impressed with the theatrical skills that these kids posses.
More than half of the participants have been involved with the L/A Arts Summer Theatre before.
Returning this session as visual arts and scenery designer is Sue Bennett. Her love of theater and the arts is apparent in her work. In addition, Jim Raymond and Ariel Francoeur are assistant directors for the performance.
The public is being invited to come out and enjoy this entertainment both for a good time and to support the work of these young people. There is a suggested donation fee of $5, with proceeds to benefit the Summer Theatre scholarship fund.
