Cadet participates in flight academy

OLD TOWN — Cadet Master Sgt. Gabe Merriman of the Civil Air Patrol 077th Auburn Squadron Maine Wing has joined fellow cadets from across the U.S. to begin training at the National Powered Flight Academy at Dewitt Airport.

This is the academy’s eighth year. Cadets have 30 hours of ground school and 10 hours of powered flight with volunteer certified Civil Air Patrol instructor pilots. There are 18 cadets who will be trained to fly in 10 Cessna 172s.

Cadets are highly motivated to fly solo as they want to receive their wings on graduation.

Food pantry seeks donations

AUBURN — The High Street Food Pantry has ongoing needs for the following items peanut butter, canned vegetables, soup, canned pasta, canned meats, canned fruit, dry cereal, baking items, soup, crackers and toilet paper.

Donations may be brought to the Auburn United Methodist Church, at 439 Park Ave.

Head start participating in food program

LEWISTON — Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care has announced its participation in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program at 269 Bates St.
