100 years ago, 1916
The Board of Water Commissioners of this city met without the presence of three members yesterday, and transacted only a little business. The afternoon was taken up with arguments and the session was a continual wrangle in which little was accomplished. Two bills, held up at the last meeting, again came up for consideration. and neither was ordered paid. A third bill, submitted by Commissioner Smith, was ordered paid, though Superintendent Longley offered strenuous objections. Mayor Brann was asked for a statement regarding the meeting, last evening, but said the bills were not even considered.

50 years ago, 1966
An unidentified man who told Auburn police only that he was a “resident” of the city called headquarters with a complaint this morning. He said one of the city’s Councilmen was driving around town today in a car which had a number six inspection sticker on it and number six expired at midnight. The man said he, himself, couldn’t, get away with such things so why should councilmen, he inquired.

25 years ago, 1991
The Public Broadcasting System recently notified France Shea, WCBB’s director of Community Relations, that Lewiston Junior High School’s entry in the national storyboard competition had received the Gold Award and the Lewiston students were first-place winners. Earlier this year, more than 40 Maine schools participated in WCBB’s I Can Change the World storyboard competition. Phil Brookhouse’s science class at LHS submitted its entry, “Flatliner Earth,” and it was chosen as the first-place winner for Maine.
