HARRISON — Scribner’s Mill will host tours of its mill and homestead from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at 244 Scribner’s Mill Road.

Tours of the mill include a demonstration at 2:30 p.m. of 19th-century machinery used to manufacture parts for dry barrels. Dry barrels were manufactured at the mill from 1896 to 1938 for the local apple industry. In 1938 New England experienced a deep freeze that destroyed apple trees, ending the production of barrels at the mill.

The production of shingles was a staple of the mill from its beginning in 1847 until its close in 1962. The shingle mill is located in the long shed, which was originally built for the storage of shingles. Demonstrations of the shingle mill will take place around 3 p.m.

Across the street from the mill is the 1849 Scribner Homestead. Home to five generations of the Scribner family, the homestead was an integral part of the mill site. The homestead has been restored as it appeared in 1924 when the house was remodeled.

Adult admission is $5.
