DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the question in the July 11 column, obtaining a copyright is very simple and inexpensive. The fee can be as low as $35, and usually there is no need for a lawyer.

Just about everything you need to know is on the copyright office website. A good place to start is their FAQ page: http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/ . — Anne, No Town.

ANSWER: Thank you for that information, Anne.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding various pest questions you receive regularly, here are a few solutions:

1. Marigolds planted between each garden plant keeps bugs away.

2. Take one bucket of boiling water with one quarter cup of ammonia mixed in and pour it down ant hill holes to kill an ant colony.

3. D.C. Jarvis, M.D., used granite dust in his prized flower bed to get rid of plant-eating mites.

4. Rock-salt brine with water poured around pesky plants, invasive vines, or poison ivy will kill the plants.

5. A cheap can of beer with a teaspoon of baby shampoo mixed in a gallon of water kills bugs, I heard. Spray on infested plants.

Thank you. — Gabrielle.

ANSWER: Some great suggestions. Thanks for sharing.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I found a gentleman from Turner who was excellent on repairing and setup of my computer. His name is Steve Maher, and his phone number is (207) 754-9429. — Woody, Auburn.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We have a Hammond electric organ that we would like to donate to any person or organization that could use it. It is a Model A-100 and was manufactured in 1964. It was owned by Eleanor Leadbetter who was a music teacher and the organist at the Park Street Methodist Church when the church was on High Street before its move to Park Street. It was obtained by my family when we bought the Leadbetter residence in Minot from the Leadbetter family after James Leadbetter died in 1986. Please contact Jeff Sturgis at (207) 782-8323 if you are interested. — Jeffrey, Minot.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is a note on the Norlands and the Washburns of Livermore. A great deal of information concerning the amazing service of Elihu B. Washburne as minister to France, including the suffering of the 1870-71 war with Germany, may be found in the superb new book, “The Great Journey, Americans in Paris.” — Louise, Auburn.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I recently bought a new Maine Atlas and Gazetteer published by Delorme. I am in need of a new plastic protective cover for it as my old plastic cover is ripped in several places. Now that the Delorme company has been bought out, their store is no longer open, including their online store. I did a Google search to try to find a new plastic cover but couldn’t come up with anything. Does anyone know where I can buy a new plastic cover? Thank you.— No Name, No Town.

ANSWER: If you search just the term “plastic atlas covers,” you’ll have more success at finding a selection that might fit your atlas than if you search with the term “Delorme.” This site, for example, appears to have what you are seeking: http://www.geomart.com/products/atlas/gazetteercover.htm
