We welcome the arrival of this year’s freshman class at Bates College. Lewiston-Auburn will have 404 new “citizens” with the arrival of these young men and women.

Tomorrow, the new students will be feted at the traditional chicken barbecue sponsored by the Lewiston-Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce.

Bates College is about to begin its 126th year. It is the oldest coeducation institution of higher learning in New England, with this year’s enrollment a record at 1,425.

We congratulate our new “citizens” for choosing Bates College. We hope that many will become participating members of our communities in the years ahead.
