Brandon Routh, star of ‘Superman Returns,’ is engaged to actress-girlfriend Courtney Ford

NEW YORK (AP) – Brandon Routh, star of “Superman Returns,” is engaged to actress-girlfriend Courtney Ford, his spokeswoman, Kacey Spies, said Wednesday.

Routh, 26, proposed to Ford, 28, earlier this month, Spies told The Associated Press. They plan to marry next year.

The couple co-star in the upcoming short film “Denial.”

Routh portrayed Superman/Clark Kent in the latest edition of the franchise.

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) – Bail was set at $50,000 Monday for Vincent Margera, uncle of “Viva La Bam” star Bam Margera, on a charge of sexual assault on a child.

Vincent Margera, 50, was arrested Friday in the Denver suburb of Lakewood.

Lakewood city spokeswoman Stacie Oulton has said he is accused of two incidents of sexual assault on a child involving inappropriate touching. During his court hearing on Monday, prosecutors claimed he had “groped” a 14-year-old.

Vincent Margera had come to Colorado to film promotional material for ManiaTV.com and was arrested after a skateboarding event at a mall. ManiaTV.com founder Drew Massey said Margera had finished his work before the arrest.

Vincent Margera had not posted bail by mid-afternoon Monday, and officials at the Jefferson County jail in Golden did not answer after-hours calls.

The MTV show “Viva La Bam” focuses largely on Bam Margera playing practical jokes on his parents and uncle, whose dialogue is often unintelligible.

Bam Margera, a professional skateboarder, was not with his uncle on the trip.

LONDON (AP) – Owen Wilson got an eyeful at the British premiere of his new movie, “You, Me and Dupree.”

Wilson was being interviewed at Leicester Square on Tuesday when a woman outside a pub shouted his name. As he looked up, she raised her shirt and flashed him.

“Wow! I kind of lost my train of thought with that one,” the 37-year-old actor said.

In the film, Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon play newlyweds whose domestic life is thrown into disarray when Wilson’s character stays too long as their houseguest.

Hudson, who recently separated from her husband, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, did not attend the premiere.

Wilson said playing the character wasn’t much of a stretch.

“I went to go stay with Woody Harrelson and his family in Hawaii for four days and it turned into four weeks,” he told reporters. “I think by the end of that trip his wife was like, “So you need a ride to the airport today?’ So sometimes you have to be sensitive to overstaying your welcome.”

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) – Foxy Brown skipped a brief court hearing on charges filed by a former colleague, but a judge told the rapper’s lawyer that Brown should attend the next session.

Brown’s lawyer, Brian J. Neary, told Judge Cynthia D. Jackson that Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, would be present to contest the two complaints filed by Rasheeda Ellis.

During the three-minute session Wednesday, the judge granted Neary’s request for a probable cause hearing, which was set for Sept. 26.

Outside court, Neary said he would ask for the charges to be dismissed at that time.

Ellis told the judge she does not plan to have a lawyer represent her.

She avoided reporters after court and a phone number under her name in Jersey City was unlisted.

“Foxy says she’s never had a problem with this woman,” Neary said. He described Ellis as a former consultant to Brown’s management company.

Neary said he does not yet know when and where any incident may have occurred, but said Jersey City police were not involved. Brown lives in New York, he said.

Brown, 26, faces a trial in New York, where she was charged with assaulting two nail salon workers in a fracas over the cost of a manicure in 2004.

DETROIT (AP) – The family of Army veteran Keith Bender has filed a lawsuit against the estate of rapper Proof, who authorities say shot Bender before being killed by another man.

Police say Deshaun Holton, who performed as Proof, got into an altercation with Bender at the CCC, an after-hours club on Detroit’s Eight Mile Road, on April 11, and it escalated when shots were fired.

Holton, who was 32, was a member of the rap group D12, which also featured Eminem. He was the best man at Eminem’s wedding in January.

In the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court, Bender’s family said Holton was liable for attacking and wounding the 35-year-old Bender, who died a week later.

The lawsuit does not name a specific amount sought. An earlier lawsuit filed in the incident was dismissed.

Prosecutors say Bender’s cousin, Mario Etheridge, shot Holton in an act of self-defense after Holton shot Bender.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) – Musicians performing in the hometown of James Brown may soon be getting a reminder that they’re in the stomping grounds of the Godfather of Soul.

The Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority voted Tuesday to rename the venue’s 8,500-seat arena the James Brown Arena.

“I thank God and all the people there,” said Brown, 73, who lives near his hometown. “We want to build back Augusta.”

Augusta also has erected a statue and named a street and music festival in his honor. The name change is pending legal research to verify that the board has the authority to rename the facility.

J.R. Riles, whose motion led to the 5-2 vote, said the tribute would help improve the struggling civic center’s public image.

The idea to name the arena after Brown had been discussed for several years, but got little traction until now.

While city leaders have sought to promote the town through Brown’s celebrity, local support for the performer has been hit and miss in the past.

A 2000 concert in the venue that soon might bear his name sold only 1,700 tickets.

Coliseum authority member Richard Isdell, who voted against the renaming, said it might draw more soul acts to the city, but would do little to help attract the country and rock shows he thinks the venue needs.
