When is the first season of “Bones” coming out on DVD?
Late November, executive producer Hart Hatton told me at a Fox press party recently in Pasadena, Calif. As for extras, he said, “There’s a gag reel. There’s commentary by actors. Barry Josephson (another executive producer) and I did commentary on a couple of episodes.”
Returning series usually try to get DVD sets in stores just before the next season, but “Bones” would have just barely made that deadline, since it starts its second season Aug. 30.
“We couldn’t get it out until the day before we aired, so then there’s clashing promos for the DVD of the first season and the start of the second season,” Hanson said.
“And then the thinking was… to get it out in November for the Christmas rush instead of September or October.”
Is “Kyle XY” being canceled on ABC on Friday nights? I really enjoy the show.
You might want to start enjoying it on cable’s ABC Family, where it airs at 8 p.m. EDT Mondays.
The show was made for the cable network. ABC has been replaying episodes to get more viewers interested (and to have more fresh programming during the summer).
I am not sure of the show dates, but years ago there was a great miniseries called “Centennial.” I think it is on VHS. Are there any DVD plans?
I don’t know of a commercial release of a DVD of the late ’70s epic, based on James Michener’s novel. You can still find copies of the VHS version for sale online (including through www.amazon.com), but they are not cheap.
In the TV show “NCIS,” there used to a female actress who was mysteriously replaced by another female actress called Zena. What happened to the original actress?
“NCIS” deals with lots of mysteries, but this isn’t one of them. Sasha Alexander, who played Caitlin Todd on the series in its first two seasons, is reported to have asked out of her deal.
Her character was then killed off. Cote de Pablo then came on board, playing a new character named Ziva David.
I saw a clip of a new show called “Shark” with James Woods. The ad I saw had Brittany Snow in it. Is she a regular or just in the first show?
Snow is not a regular on the series. And you may be thinking of Mimi Michaels in the pilot, since Snow is not in it.
Nor, by the way, will she be back on “Nip/Tuck” when it returns in September.
And, just to pile on the bad news, a NBC executive said recently that it’s very unlikely that the network will air the finale of “American Dreams,” which co-starred Snow. Even though people still want to see the specially shot final scenes, and NBC indicated it would show them last year, too much time has passed since the show’s end for NBC to televise them now.
But Snow is working, including in the new movie “John Tucker Must Die.”
Q: Where do I know the redheaded pessimistic guy on the ads for that new show “The Class?”
A: Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Richie Velch on the CBS sitcom, has a long list of New York stage credits, including “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” – he played Leaf Coneybear – and a revival of “On the Town.” On TV, he was in “Sally Hemings: An American Scandal” and “Absolutely Fabulous.”
