AMVETS Post 6 Auxiliary Flea Market
NEW GLOUCESTER — New Gloucester AMVETS Post 6 Auxiliary will hold its annual flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the post on Route 100.
Proceeds benefit the auxiliary’s yearly projects.
The market will include new and used items, unique crafts and collectibles. Event is rain or shine.

Korean pig roast postponed
RUMFORD — American Legion Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 on Congress Street has postponed the Korean pig roast scheduled for Saturday, July 24, due to unforeseen circumstances.
A date will be announced soon for sometime in the early fall.
Spruce Mountain team at Envirothon
JAY — Spruce Mountain High School has announced it’s among 51 teams of more than 250 students from the U.S. and Canada competing in the 2016 North American Envirothon at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, July 24 to 29.
This year, the competition will focus on the theme of invasive species, an issue that’s one of the greatest threats to biodiversity in Canada and the U.S. The event is the culmination of local Envirothon programs, where students compete while studying the science and sustainability of natural ecosystems.
Chili cook-off, corn hole tournament
MECHANIC FALLS — A chili cook-off contest and corn hole tournament will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 29, at American Legion Post 150, 41 Elm St.
Spring Rock yard, bake sale
LEEDS — The Spring Rock Park annual yard and bake sale to benefit the Residents’ Association will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at 802 Church Hill Road.
Daughters of Union Veterans meet
WATERVILLE — Eighteen members from four tents of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War met for the 104th Annual Convention on June 24.
The convention opened with a granddaughters’ breakfast. The meeting was called to order by Vicky Myers, department president. Elected officers and appointed officers remain the same until 2017. Reports were given. The group held a memorial service for departed sisters.
Attendees voted to hold the 105th convention on June 23, 2017, at the Hampton Inn.
Rangeley Area-Wide Yard Sale
RANGELEY — Rangeley-area residents are invited to participate in the Rangeley Area-Wide Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.
This year’s host is the Rangeley Public Library.
Interested sellers may reserve their spots by signing up at the library or the Chamber of Commerce.
Along with benefiting from advertising throughout the region, for $12 ($15 if multiple sellers share a location), the individual yard sale location will be printed on maps that will be available at the library, the Chamber of Commerce and the Oquossoc Grocery on Aug. 5.
For those who feel their location may be too distant, the library will rent spaces at the Rangeley Region Guides & Sportsmen Club pavilion in Oquossoc and at the barn parking lot at the Congregational Church.
All proceeds from individual table fees will benefit programs and services offered by the library.

Farmington Historical Society to meet
FARMINGTON — The Farmington Historical Society will present Community Lands for Early Farmington Citizens: Meetinghouse Park and Bonney Woods Corp. during its monthly meeting on Monday, July 25.
The early citizens recognized the importance of what’s now called open space. These two pieces of land were set aside with a purpose and were protected from development. The presentation will cover how they were created, preserved and what they are today.
The event is open to the public.
A potluck dinner will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a brief Historical Society meeting and then the program.
