Mystery Photo for July 31, 2016
There were several dozen correct entries for last week’s mystery photo. In a random drawing, Julie DeMont of Paris was chosen as the winner. She was quite familiar with where the photo is located. In her entry she wrote, “I know where the photo was taken. It’s the view I see from my back yard every morning. The photo is of the First Baptist Church of Paris, at 500 Paris Hill Road, Paris. The bell chimes the hour every hour. It was made by Paul Revere’s son, Joseph Warren Revere, and dates from 1821. Although an earlier meeting house stood on the site, the current building was built in 1838. Hannibal Hamlin gave the town the clock in the church tower in 1883. DeMont is the winner of a $20 gift card from Hannaford Supermarkets.
