RUMFORD — Two men from Nova Scotia were arrested Friday evening after leading police on a high-speed motorcycle chase that ended when authorities found them trying to hide.
Authorities said the two Canadians drove recklessly through traffic on Route 2 and failed to stop for an officer when he tried to pull them over.
Maine State Police Trooper Jason Wing said he was in a line of cars headed east on Route 2 in Hanover when three motorcycles began aggressively weaving in and out of traffic.
After the motorcycles passed him, Wing signaled for them to stop. One of the motorcycles pulled over immediately, but the other two accelerated.
The motorcycles, a Ducati and a KTM, split up and Wing stopped the chase near Rumford Point as speeds reached in excess of 100 mph. Rumford police eventually discovered the two motorcycles near Sam’s Italian Foods in Rumford.
The chase lasted a few minutes and spanned four miles, Wing said.
Arrested were Scott Davis, 31, of Aylesford, Nova Scotia, and Stephen Dusyk, 35, of Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Both were charged with misdemeanors of failure to stop for an officer, driving to endanger and criminal speeding, and a felony of attempting to elude an officer.
A woman driving the motorcycle that pulled over was not charged.
The men were taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris from where they were bailed on $2,500 cash each.
