AUGUSTA — Former St. Dominic Academy soccer coach John Brissette began a 20-month prison sentence Monday for selling cocaine.

The Kennebec Journal reported that Brissette pleaded guilty Monday in the Capital Judicial Center to unlawful trafficking in cocaine after accepting a plea deal for the sentence followed by three years of probation.

Brissette was arrested at his home in Monmouth on Dec. 8, 2015, and charged with aggravated unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

During his probation, Brissette will be prohibited from possessing and using alcohol and illegal drugs, and must undergo substance-abuse evaluation and counseling if required.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency found 110 grams of cocaine and close to $2,000 in cash, along with 1.1 pounds of marijuana, according to the Kennebec Journal.

Brissette coached boys’ junior varsity soccer at St. Dominic Academy through the 2015 fall season. A news release from the Roman Catholic Diocese said his charges had no connection to the school or its students.
