CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – New Hampshire auto dealers say as many as 25 dealerships could close as Chrysler goes through bankruptcy and General Motors tries to avoid a similar fate.
The automakers have 57 dealerships with hundreds of employees in New Hampshire.
Peter McNamara, head of the New Hampshire Auto Dealers Association, says his group is lobbying hard for a bill that would soften the blow if dealerships are forced to close. Among other things, the bill would require manufacturers to buy back all vehicles delivered in the past 24 months if the owner shuts down due to the tough economy.
McNamara told the New Hampshire Sunday News that he hopes the House passes the bill this week and gets it to the governor as soon as possible.
