Volunteers needed for Tent-N-Treasures sale

NORWAY — The friends and members of the Second Congregational Church, UCC, are sorting, cleaning and pricing items for their 17th annual Tent-N-Treasures Yard Sale, which will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, on Main St.

The church is seeking volunteers to assist with set-up the morning of Thursday, Aug. 25, and all day Friday, Aug. 26. Those interested in volunteering for any amount of time may contact 207-743-2290.

Jay Historical Society Open House

JAY — Jay Historical Society will offer family fun and a peek into the past at its annual open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the top of Jay Hill on Main Street, Route 4.

The community may enjoy the music of Larry Wright & Friends, tour the Holmes-Craft homestead and sample Indian pudding. There will be games on the lawn for children and free lemonade for all.

Local artist Alexis Burbank will be available to cut silhouettes, a popular form of portraiture in the 19th century.

The event is free and donations will be accepted. 

Square dance party at Orgonon

RANGELEY — Square Dance Party will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the the Wilhelm Reich Museum’s conference center, Dodge Pond Road.

No experience or reservations necessary. National caller and Rangeley resident Red Bates will teach all the moves. Families and singles welcome in casual dress.

The cost is $10 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce and the museum ticket office. Refreshments will be served.

CPR, first aid class offered

OXFORD — There will be a CPR and first aid class at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Oxford Public Safety Building on Route 26.

Participants will learn basic first aid, adult, child and infant CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator. Upon completion of the one-day class, students will receive a two-year certification in accordance with the American Heart Association. This certificate course is accepted for day/child care providers, loggers, guides, teachers and any other non-health-care-related professions.

The next class will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.

Groups may request to schedule a class at their convenience. 

Health care basic life support CPR recertifications are done as needed one-on-one.
