We applaud state Sen. Roger Katz, R-Augusta, of Senate District 15, for the character he has demonstrated when speaking out on the topic of the Republican presidential candidate, disavowing Donald Trump as viable for the office of president of the United States.
On Aug. 5, he wrote, “Donald Trump is not fit to be president,” and went on to enumerate the reasons that brought him to that conclusion.
That makes him a statesman worthy of holding elected office, not just a partisan politician.
Maybe, his will be an example of truth-telling that others — especially some in the congressional delegation — will choose to emulate, rather than to duck the responsibility of leadership for the common good of this nation and its citizens.
We deeply appreciate his courage and continued advocacy for all the good people of the state of Maine who value honesty, justice and wish to preserve a more perfect union.
