SACO (AP) – Korea Aerospace Industries has awarded General Dynamics a contract for production of up to 82 gun systems for its A-50 aircraft.

The contract, announced Monday, will be managed by General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products in Burlington, Vt., and production will be carried out in Saco.

Steve Vander Kraats, program manager, says the system was developed for the supersonic attack aircraft under development by Korea Aerospace Industries. He says the 20 mm Gatling gun system provides capabilities “comparable to that of larger fighter aircraft.”

Ammunition containers will be produced by S&T Dynamics LTD of South Korea. GD says deliveries are anticipated to begin in October 2010.
