1942 – 2016
PORTLAND — Mary Jane Densmore, 74, of Poland died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 4, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation & Residence in Portland.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1942, in Portland, a daughter of John and Emily (Bixby) Esmond, where she was raised and spent her childhood growing up.
On Jan. 23, 1960, she married Malcolm Densmore in Portland where they made their home until 1968 when they moved to Lewiston and later settling in Turner in 1974. They moved to Auburn in 1984 and finally settled in Poland in 1994.
Mary Jane over the years worked various jobs, her favorite being a school bus driver for MSAD 52, Turner, Leeds and Greene. She later worked as a bank teller until her retirement.
Mary Jane was involved in the PTA, served as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack No. 187, worked as an EMT for the Turner Rescue and was a longtime state secretary and treasurer for the DAR. She was also an avid flower gardener.
She is survived by her husband, Malcolm of Poland; her son, Craig Densmore of Mechanic Falls; her daughter, Colynda Austin of New Gloucester; three grandchildren, Jacob, Amanda and Marvin; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Priscilla Kyle of Naples, Jackie Boylan of Savannah, Ga., and John Esmond of Windham.
