1913 – 2016
AUBURN — Gracienne V. Bernatchez, 103, formerly of 74 Seventh St., Auburn, and a resident of the Chapman House for the past five and a half years, died Friday, Sept. 2, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
Grace was born in Auburn on May 30, 1913, the daughter of Napoleon and Marie Richard Beaudry. Educated in Auburn schools, she was employed for many years in the office of the former Hill Division of the Bates Mill, and then worked for Mechanic Savings Bank, prior to her retirement.
In 1941, she married Edward M. McCarthy, who passed away in 1956. In 1968, she married her second husband, Rudolph Bernatchez, who passed away in 1977.
A member of the former St. Louis Church, she was also a member of New Auburn Senior Citizens and loved being a part of the New Auburn community.
Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne and husband, Walter Hinkley, of Auburn; two grandchildren, Michael Hinkley and wife, Amy, and Debra Carrier and husband, Michael; and three great-grandchildren, Kristen Lajoie, and Connor and Brayden Ames.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by two sisters, Colinette Roussin and Charlotte Beaudry; and three brothers, Placide, Altheode (Bob) and Louis Beaudry.
