MERRIMACK, N.H.(AP) – A financial transaction half a world away ended an era for a brewery in Merrimack, N.H.

The Belgian company InBev announced Tuesday that it had completed its $52 billion takeover of Anheuser-Busch, which owned the Merrimack brewery and 11 others in North America.

The new company is called Anheuser-Busch InBev. It promises to keep the company’s North American headquarters in St. Louis.

It also promises to keep the North American breweries open as long as the company faces no new U.S. taxes.

Anheuser-Busch already plans to shed nearly 1,200 jobs – mostly by offering early retirement and not filling vacancies.
