1933 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Edwin R. “Ted” Targett, 83, of Stratton died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Flagstaff, one of 11 children born to Erwin S. and Annette (Murray) Targett. He was educated in Flagstaff schools and on Aug. 2, 1952, married Rita Cyr of Canada in Oquossoc. Ted was a veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a self-employed lumberman and in 1970 founded Targett Construction, retiring in 1996 (but not really), as his passions were his family and his work. Never one to be idle, “work” was his hobby, and his son, Kenny, enjoyed having his dad remain an active part of his legacy.

Ted was a proud, humble man who enjoyed his membership in the Bigelow Masonic Lodge No. 202, the Kora Shrine Temple, the Stratton American Legion Post and the Stratton Lions Club. He also enjoyed mowing the municipal cemeteries as a way of showing respect to his beloved community.

He was also a pilot, and enjoyed teaching others in Carrabassett the joy of flying. He enjoyed camping, boating, dancing and spending time with family and friends.
